Liposuction vs. HD lipo — they aren’t the same

Standard liposuction reduces volume — flatter result. HD lipo sculpts contour, etching the natural valleys between muscle groups so an athletic body shape becomes visible. HD only works on patients with BMI under 28 and pre-existing musculature.

Technologies used at our El Poblado practice

VASER (focused ultrasound)

Vibrating cannulas emulsify fat cells before aspiration. Less bleeding, less swelling, much greater precision in delicate areas like neck, arms and upper abdomen. It’s our main tool for HD lipo.

Laser (SmartLipo, BodyTite)

Laser energy tightens skin while removing fat. Great for patients with mild skin laxity who want to avoid open surgery. Less effective on very large areas.

Tumescent technique

The foundation of any modern liposuction: infiltration of saline with anesthetic and vasoconstrictor minimizes bleeding. Used as base in every case.

Am I a candidate for liposuction in Medellín?

  • BMI between 22 and 30. Above 30 we recommend losing weight first.
  • Good skin quality: very lax skin needs an open procedure (tummy tuck, body lift) instead.
  • Fat localized in areas that resist consistent diet and exercise.
  • Stable weight for at least 6 months.
  • Non-smoker or willing to quit 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after.
