Botox and fillers are the most-requested non-surgical treatments in Medellín. Done badly they look artificial or asymmetric; done well they’re the best preventive investment in facial aesthetics. The difference is who injects and how.

Quick essentials

  • Botox (botulinum toxin): relaxes muscles, smooths dynamic wrinkles. Lasts 4–6 months.
  • Fillers (hyaluronic acid): restore volume where it was lost. Last 9–24 months by area and product.
  • They treat different problems: botox for movement wrinkles, fillers for volume and grooves.
  • Performed by the plastic surgeon — never delegated to nursing or aesthetic staff.

Botox: what it does and doesn’t do

Botox is type-A botulinum toxin, a purified protein that temporarily blocks the nerve signal to a target muscle. The muscle relaxes; the wrinkle that forms when it contracts disappears.

Treatable areas

  • Forehead (horizontal lines).
  • Glabella (“11” lines).
  • Crow’s feet.
  • Bunny lines (nose).
  • Upper lip (“smoker” lines).
  • Chin dimpling.
  • Neck bands (platysma).
  • Hyperhidrosis (excess sweating in armpits, hands, feet).
  • Bruxism / masseters (face-slimming effect).

What botox does NOT do

  • Doesn’t remove deep static wrinkles (those need fillers or surgery).
  • Doesn’t add volume.
  • Doesn’t work instantly: peak effect at 5–14 days.

Hyaluronic acid fillers

Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by the body. Modern fillers are cross-linked HA in different densities for different zones.

Filler densities

  • High density (Voluma, Volux): cheeks, chin, jaw. 18–24 months.
  • Medium density (Volift, Vollure): nasolabial folds, marionette lines. 12–18 months.
  • Low density (Volbella, Refyne): lips and fine areas. 9–12 months.

Treatable areas

  • Cheeks: definition and volume.
  • Nasolabial folds.
  • Chin and jawline: facial contour.
  • Lips: hydration, definition or augmentation.
  • Tear troughs: under-eye hollow correction.
  • Temples: corrects bone-resorption hollowing.

Botox + fillers combination

Modern aesthetic medicine combines both: botox to relax dynamic wrinkles + fillers to restore lost volume. Either alone gives only half the result.

2026 pricing in Medellín

  • Botox 1 zone: USD 160 – 220.
  • Botox 3 zones (forehead + glabella + crow’s feet): USD 320 – 450.
  • Botox for bruxism: USD 220 – 340.
  • Lip filler (1 ml): USD 320 – 470.
  • Cheek filler (1 ml per side): USD 470 – 650.
  • Nasolabial folds (1 ml): USD 380 – 580.

Who should inject?

Only physicians with formal training in deep facial anatomy. In El Poblado, Dr. Isabella Ramírez personally performs all injectables — we don’t delegate to nursing staff or aestheticians. This dramatically reduces risk of vascular necrosis and retinal embolism, rare but serious complications when fillers are placed by personnel without surgical training.

Risks and contraindications

  • Bruising and mild swelling: common, resolve in 3–7 days.
  • Temporary asymmetry: correctable by touch-up.
  • Skin necrosis from vascular compromise: very rare with proper technique.
  • Foreign body reaction: uncommon, usually transient.
  • Contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infection at site, neuromuscular disorders.
